William Booth Hollenbeck
1857 - 1919

William Hollenbeck, aged sixty-one years, died at the Lee Sanitarium in Dowagiac early Tuesday morning, after a long illness from cancer of the stomach. Mr. Hollenbeck was born in Wayne township 61 years ago and most of his life has been spent there and in Dowagiac. When a young man he was married to Miss Mary Pearse of Wayne, and they became the parents of two children, E.A. Hollenbeck of Volinia and Mrs. Lura Morse of this village. His first wife having died he was married in 1898 to Miss Mattie Pollock,who survives him as do their two children, Wyatt Hollenbeck of Detroit and Miss Helen, who lives at home.

Funeral services will be held, this afternoon, under Masonic auspices, at the Wayne chapel where burial will be made. Rev. J.W. Springsteen will officiate.

The announcement of William Hollenbeck's second marriage:

Yesterday afternoon at the home of G.H. Dewer, in this city, Miss Mattie Pollock, of this city, and William Hollenbeck, of Aurora, Ill., were united in marriage by Rev. Griffiths. The wedding occurred at 4 o'clock and was very private, only one or two intimate friends being present. They left last evening on the 5:56 train for their future home in Aurora. They were the recipients of many beautiful and useful presents, the bride being presented with several pieces of fine china as a token of esteem from the members of the grade which she taught in our city schools. She also received several fine presents from a number of the teachers with whom she had long been pleasantly associated.

For the past four years, --- had been the teacher of the -- grade, at the Union school and had proved herself to be a most worthy and efficient instructor, and it is with much regret that the school board parted with her valuable services. Mr. Hollenbeck is the foreman in the railroad shops of the Chicago Burlington, Quincy and Aurora. The best wishes of many friends are extended to them."
