Death of Albert D. Patrick
He was oldest employee of Company in age and in length of service.
ALBERT DE VALANGIN PATRICK, Assistant
Secretary and Superintendent of the Fraternal Order Division of the Fidelity Department, died of pneumonia on February 15 after a short illness.
Mr. Patrick was the oldest employee of the Company in years and length of service. He joined the Company in January, 1897, less than six months after it was founded. He was eighty-seven years old at the time of his death.
Earlier in the year he had been elected assistant secretary of the Company in recognition of his long and faithful service.
In the early days of the Company, Mr. Patrick turned his hand to any work that the moment demanded. He was city solicitor, underwriter, claim adjuster and many of the agents Mr. Patrick appointed as the first special agent still represent the Company.
Mr. Patrick was in charge of Fraternal Order bonds since the Company started writing this line in 1901. In the surety world he was known as the dean of fraternal bond underwriters.
By never missing a day because of illness until he was stricken recently during his more than forty-three years of service, Mr. Patrick made an unusual record with the Company.
Dignified yet ever kindly, Mr. Patrick commanded the respect of his associates and was an inspiration to young men. Through good years and bad, from its infancy to its maturity, he was always unstinting in his devotion to the Company. His death is a loss to the Company, to his many friends and to his associates.
